A new government scheme is aiming to help job-seeking graduates pair up companies for internships. The Graduate Talent Pool Initiative, which was announced today by universities and skills secretary John Denham, will match people with internships so they can learn the transferable skills that will make them more attractive to employers. A number of big-name firms, including Marks and Spencer, Network Rail and Microsoft, have already signed up to the dedicated website. Commenting on the development, Mr Denham said: "A degree is one of the best pathways to achieving a good job and rewarding career, however nobody is immune from the current economic climate which is why we are committed to proving graduates with the support to help them gain employment or further their education." This follows news that another government scheme will see those who take unpaid graduate internships receiving benefits if they have already claimed for jobseeker's allowance for six months or more.
