Employers at the recent Sustainable Innovation in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning networking meeting have been told of the benefits of graduate engineering schemes to help them get work experience personnel. Ed Hammond, a former graduate and current co-ordinator of Engineering Development Trust (EDT), told the crowd that the graduate schemes his group offers can help employers make links with those looking for graduate jobs, according to Construction News. EDT offers a Year in Industry initiative, which allows students to take 12 months out of higher education to improve their practical skills and experience life as an apprentice. Mr Hammond told the news provider: "In many cases the Year in Industry concludes with the company offering the student full-time employment after their studies and you've snapped up a top graduate before anyone else has had the chance." Eight graduates recently had the chance to gain 12 weeks' work experience in an engineering position with the North Lincolnshire Council, according to the Grimsby Telegraph.
