University leavers in the East Midlands region may be pleased to know that local authorities are teaming up with a recruitment service to help degree-holders find graduate jobs. Bolsover District Council is collaborating with Hot Prospects in order to provide subsidies to local businesses, encouraging them to sign up university leavers onto graduate jobs for temporary periods. According to Chad.co.uk, it is thought the scheme will help increase the employability of graduates in the current economic climate, where many are struggling to find work. Wes Lumley, chief executive of Bolsover District Council, told the newspaper: "Recruitment costs associated with employing a graduate can often be prohibitive, so by funding these costs for an initial work placement we hope that many more businesses will benefit from tapping into this graduate resource." A recent meeting organised by the East of England Development Agency saw minister for skills David Lammy address a crowd of employers about the benefits they can reap from providing graduate internships, Business Weekly reported.
