Graduate internships for skills, says expert

Graduate internships for skills, says expert Those relying on a graduate internship to get their foot in the door at a company are not making the most of them, according to one expert.

Chris Morall, managing director of HR coaching firm of Talent Transitions, said that graduate internships are beneficial for improving employability skills and adding value to a CV.

Mr Morall added that university leavers should not assume that they will get a paid graduate job at the end of them and that they should be making the effort to look for other work while they are undertaking the internship.

He explained: "I wouldn't avoid getting a job, I would try and get an internship which has a structure to it and it fits their long-term goals and long-term aims."

Minister for skills David Lammy recently addressed a crowd of employers about the benefits they can reap from providing graduate internships at an East of England Development Agency-organised event in St Albans.
