Graduate jobs needed to address Birmingham 'brain drain'

Graduate jobs needed to address Birmingham 'brain drain' A young professionals membership group has spoken out about the need for more graduate jobs in the West Midlands in order to prevent talent leaving the area.

Responding to a recent survey which showed that 80 per cent of all students in the region travel to cities like London in order to find graduate jobs after leaving university, Birmingham Futures said that 'brain drain' needs to be addressed.

According to the Birmingham Post, the group will hold a meeting at the Council House on October 7th which will discuss how graduate jobs will help keep students in the West Midlands.

Amanda Porter, chairwoman for Birmingham Future, said: "For those who ... choose to stay, or who return to make their careers here ... there are plenty of opportunities for personal and professional development in Birmingham."

WalesOnline recently reported that over half of students in Wales have moved to take advantage of the increased graduate job opportunities in England, according to Higher Education Statistics Agency figures.
