Recruitment agencies 'a useful resource'

Recruitment agencies 'a useful resource' Graduates should consider consulting recruitment agencies as part of their job search as they can be a helpful resource, an expert has claimed.

Anne Fairweather, head of public policy at the Recruitment & Employment Confederation, points out that agencies often have a wealth of knowledge about companies and their hiring strategies.

She notes that such information allows them to select the most appropriate candidate for a position and put them forward for consideration.

"Often when you go to the interview it's fine but when you turn up to work the organisation isn't quite what you had hoped for, so an agency can help reduce the chance of job disappointment," said Ms Fairweather.

Carl Gilleard of the Association of Graduate Recruiters recently claimed that the graduate recruitment industry is proving resilient to the effects of the economic downturn.

Research by the group found that 33 per cent of recruiters expect to take on the same number of university leavers this year as 2008.
