Graduates deserve better support and advice when looking for a job and contemplating which career path to choose after leaving university, it has been stated. The Daily Telegraph reports that new figures show that many ex-students are finding themselves in part-time graduate jobs due to a lack of opportunities brought on by the recession, while others are settling for graduate placements at larger companies or voluntary work. David Willetts, the shadow universities secretary, believes that prime minister Gordon Brown is to blame for the problem, with his government neglecting the role of assisting graduates when searching for employment. According to the publication, he said: "Graduates face the toughest job market in years, but the government has failed to provide them with the advice and support they need. "We must provide young people with much better information and advice to help them plan a career, choose the right university and find a job after they graduate." However, it has been noted that those in part-time positions should attempt to work for a company that will have a positive impact on their CV.
