A leading UK university is offering graduates an incentive to study further rather than face potential difficulty securing employment. Durham University is allocating £2,000 to any graduate who chooses to stay on and do research, which it says is a good opportunity for students to "upskill". A recent survey conducted by High Fliers Research indicated graduate recruiters may reduce their intake this year, which may lead to more students applying for post graduate courses. Durham's pro-vice-chancellor for learning and teaching, Professor Anthony Forster, said many people are approaching employment prospects with caution. "We have some of the most employable graduates in the country, but this scholarship will give them a real chance to upgrade their skills and be in a better position to gain employment once they leave," he said. ITjobsforgraduates.com recently noted that the economic downturn has led to an increasing number of graduates seeking employment in the IT sector.
