Communications industry 'remains healthy'

Communications industry 'remains healthy' The communications industry has largely resisted the effects of the economic downturn, according to new survey by search and selection company VMA.

Some 72 per cent of companies said they will not be downsizing, while 23 per cent claim that they will still be recruiting during the next twelve months.

According to the research, the role of communications in the global market will be substantially stronger than the last recession, which could be good news for graduates considering a career in the sector.

VMA's chief executive officer Julie Meighan said: "In today's world, it is incredibly important to manage your business reputation as rumours can spread across the internet in minutes, causing financial as well as reputational damage."

Carl Gilleard of the Association of Graduate Recruiters recently claimed that the recruitment industry is proving resilient to the effects of the economic downturn.

The research indicated that 33 per cent of recruiters expect to take on the same number of graduates this year as they did last year.
