A ceremony took place in Inverness yesterday to congratulate a group of graduate job hopefuls who have successfully completed work placements at various employers in the area. Some 37 university leavers went through the Shell Step summer graduate programme and the Highlands and Islands Enterprise headquarters held a celebration for the job hunters' new skills. According to the Press and Journal, Strathclyde University student Ewan Murray said that his position at AWS Ocean Energy could end with a potential graduate job. He told the newspaper: "My placement gave me a great insight into wave and tidal energy in Scotland. The work I was given felt like I really contributed to the company and hopefully it's the start of a future relationship with AWS." The Confederation of British Industry recently urged businesses in the UK to help those looking for graduate jobs in the current economic condition should be aided in finding apprenticeship schemes.
