Employers who put their efforts into maintaining or improving their skills training for graduates will be helping to fast-track the UK economy to recovery, according to one MP. Gordon Marsden, MP for Blackpool South and chairman of the All-party Skill Group, told ePolitix.com that he has been working on new policies to help graduates get training to boost their career prospects. In discussions with the government, Mr Marsden has recommended more graduate internships and greater employment-based training to improve university leavers' skills as well as preparing businesses for the upturn in the economy. He told the news provider: "In the north-west, and across the UK, new opportunities will need to be found for younger people who may find it difficult to gain employment after graduating or finishing their training." A recent survey by TMP Worldwide revealed that those in their first or second graduate jobs are thinking of changing to positions where training is a priority after the economy picks up, according to Onrec.com.
