Job opportunities for graduates are still prevalent in the UK, but may not be in the specific areas applicants trained for, it has been claimed. Dr John McGurk, advisor on skills and learning at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), pointed out that training can be used as an effective way of getting back into the labour market. "People really need to use the various support the government gives through Train to Gain, the Skills Pledge and all those areas," he explained. He added that it is difficult to predict which jobs are going to be in strong supply due to the current fluctuating nature of the market. According to the autumn 2008 Labour Market Outlook conducted by the CIPD, 75 per cent of companies are planning to recruit new applicants in the next three months. Claire Steiner, director and chair of education and training at the Institute of Travel and Tourism, recently noted that the tourism sector is still offering graduate opportunities.
