A new announcement by the government has promised a £1.1 billion investment in the creation of media jobs, including those for graduates currently looking for work. Local councils, third sector groups, arts organisations and creative industry bodies will bid for a share of the money in order to create new employment opportunities in their sector, a boon for graduates with media degrees. Announcing the funding at the launch of the government's Lifting People, Lifting Places scheme, work and pensions secretary James Purnell and culture minister Andy Burnham said that organisers of music festivals are already keen to sign up. Mr Burnham said: "This investment is a golden opportunity to create real jobs for Britain's young talent of the future." Alistair Darling has already pledged to help the 250,000 unemployed young people in Britain today find work, including those looking for a graduate job during the difficult economic climate.
