Prestigious carmaker Mercedes-Benz has announced that it has increased its intake of graduates for 2009. Welcoming five new degree-holders into its fold, the automotive firm said that additional government funding will allow it to provide more graduate jobs in the next year through its specialised programme. Furthermore, the apprenticeship scheme currently being run by the company will see 108 graduate job hunters being able to improve their skills and even land a position on completion. Wilfried Steffen, president and chief executive of Mercedes-Benz UK, said: "Professional and motivated people are key to our plans for the future. Our investment in these schemes is an essential part of our plans." Graduate job hunters in the north-east could take advantage of 150 new positions being created at automotive firm Nissan's Sunderland plant.
