Graduate recruitment in the construction sector has received a boost after Morgan Ashurst announced a record intake of university leavers. The building company has taken on 24 new graduates, which is almost double last year's figure, getreading.co.uk reported. New recruits will undertake a rigorous training programme on their way to achieving a professional qualification from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Morgan Ashurst's regional managing director Stephen Scard told the website that the new recruits will allow the business to go "from strength-to-strength". The news comes after the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) highlighted the importance of graduate recruitment in the construction sector, which it said represents "the future of the industry". According to a recent CIOB survey, 77 per cent of those involved in the building sector believe that it is suffering from a skills shortage. This has highlighted how crucial graduate recruitment is to the industry's recovery, with 78 per cent of respondents under the impression that this will be hindered unless more university leavers secure construction jobs.
