More graduate job hunters are landing positions at pharmaceutical firms than they were in 2007, it has been revealed. The Higher Education Careers Service Unit has released data which shows that four per cent more graduates went into pharmaceutical jobs six months after leaving university in 2008 than the previous year. Released this week, the figures are an indication that more graduate job hunters are looking for work in the healthcare sector since the recession, which has widely been blamed on the actions of finance companies, according to the Chemist & Druggist. Keith Wilson, deputy dean of Aston University's school of life and health sciences, told the news provider than competition for courses in his department has increased. He said: "Graduates now have to compete to get their pre-registration post - that has been a big change from five years ago." Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline recently announced that 3,000 jobs, some of which could be taken up by graduates, will be created at its new science park in south Hertfordshire.
