Those seeking graduate jobs in the UK should consider the options available to them in the public sector, according to an expert. Institute of Employment Studies research fellow Tom Usher has claimed that the current economic climate has had some effect on the graduate recruitment, meaning some sectors may not offer as many opportunities as others. However, he added that those looking to roles in the public sector may not have to change their employment expectations, as it is one area where employment still appears to be on the increase. "This includes jobs related to the public sector and education," he added. Graduates hoping for a career in financial services were recently urged by Sonja Stockton, head of recruitment at PricewaterhouseCoopers, to consider roles based outside of London. She claimed that opportunities for meaningful employment can arise anywhere, as long as people are still picking up the skills needed to progress in the their chosen field.
