Graduate job hunters in the East Midlands might be interested in some new opportunities coming up if big four supermarket chain Sainsbury's gets its wish to open a flagship store in South Derbyshire. It is thought that up to 150 retail jobs could be created if the scheme for a 32,300 sq ft superstore in Swadlincote gets the final go-ahead by district council members. The new store will provide a multitude of services to the local community as well as the jobs, and although many councillors have agreed to let building commence some are concerned that it may be an "eyesore". Martyn Ford, committee vice-chairman for South Derbyshire District Council, told the Burton Mail: "I think this is an exciting scheme. This is a national retailer prepared to invest in South Derbyshire and Swadlincote and will lead to improvements in the town." Sainsbury's has also announced the creation of 100 more retail jobs in Northern Ireland, which may suit graduates looking for employment in the area.
