Bristol University has been awarded new £3.7 million of funding to train the next generation of scientists and engineers. The education establishment received the money from the UK funding body for science and engineering, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), which awarded a total of £82 million to 45 universities across the UK. Under guidelines related to the funding, ten per cent of the Doctoral Training Grant will need used for industry-related training, to ensure future graduates have the best opportunities to find industry jobs after the completion of their education. David Delpy, chief executive of the EPSRC, said: "People are at the heart of what we do. "These grants mark a significant investment in talented future PhD students who will help drive forward the UK's economy". Recent figures released by UCAS showed that journalism, biotechnology, biological sciences and combined engineering and technology courses are seeing an increase in demand compared to previous years, according to the Press Gazette.
