A new course is offering business skills training to graduate job hunters who are having trouble finding employment in the current economic climate. University College London (UCL) set up the Enterprise Boot Camp initiative in order to help degree-holders gain the teamwork and communication skills it believes are vital for graduate employment. According to the Independent, the alumni on the course mostly have first or upper-second degrees, proving their academic capabilities, but lack the soft skills necessary for business. Timothy Barnes, the executive director of UCL Advances, the university's centre for entrepreneurship, told the newspaper: "The people who are on the course don't have much experience of the world of work, so it is taking those people who don't know where to start and showing them what the big ideas are." Keele University hopes to get its former students to hone their soft skills on work experience placements at firms across the West Midlands, which will help them into graduate jobs, the Coventry Telegraph reported.
