A graduate scheme organiser in north Devon has said that employment opportunities remain for university leavers in the area. Cathy Newman, of North Devon +, recently wrapped up a graduate scheme which saw 22 young people find work experience at 21 different companies in the area, allowing them to match their skills to businesses' needs, according to the North Devon Gazette. Five of the participants have now secured graduate jobs with the firms and eight more have had their placements extended. Ms Newman told the newspaper: "The success of the project has shown that there are opportunities for graduates in Torridge. I hope it will encourage more graduates to stay in the area and encourage more businesses to consider taking on graduates for project placements." Up to 135 students will be able to take up graduate schemes and internships with small businesses in London thanks to a recent grant for the University College London, provided by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, according to the Independent.
