New research has indicated the importance for the class of 2010 to make preparations for job hunting this summer so that they are not faced with a struggle when they graduate. Carried out by TMP Worldwide, figures from the report showed that 60 per cent of those going into their third year in September have not done an internship or received work experience, while 78 per cent are more concerned about enjoying their summer break. According to Onrec.com, despite media reports about the highly competitive nature of today's graduate job market, students are currently not taking a proactive approach to finding employment. Neil Harrison, head of research and planning at TMP Worldwide, told the news provider: "The importance of employability skills is now firmly front of mind with 95 per cent [of students] agreeing that building employability skills is a big deal right now for graduates wanting to enter the workplace." Top graduate job provider PricewaterhouseCoopers recently said that university leavers wishing to find employment this year must not be fussy about location.
