A printing firm in the US has said that it is still putting money into staff development and sales training schemes during the recession. CGX, which is based in Texas, claimed that its three-year Leadership Development programme is offered to every graduate that joins the firm, followed by extra sales training if it is needed. In a move which could be replicated by UK firms hoping to thrive in the difficult economic climate, Jim Cohen, executive vice-president of mergers and acquisitions at the company, said that no limits should be placed on sales training. "In addition, if any of the trainees want additional training in digital and our CGX Solutions technology, we move them to Houston for three months and pay for their housing while they learn firsthand about all that we are doing." Wayne Gratton, director of technology at Avnet Technology Solutions recently told CRN that companies hoping to secure a positive turnover in today's turbulent economy need to make sure their sales training systems are effective.
