University leavers interested in the telecommunications or retail sector could have an increased chance of landing a graduate job with Vodafone, after it announced a boost in vacancies. The company is to provide 50 graduate jobs in 2010, despite the fact that others such as BT have closed their recruitment schemes because of the recession. Vodafone has also cut 500 jobs across its operations and closed pension schemes for 4,000 employees, but has remained committed to degree-level job hunters by announcing the vacancy boost. Matthew Brearley, HR director at Vodafone, said: "We want to attract smart, internet-savvy people, who want to make a real difference by being part of our business. "We are looking for graduates who are passionate about customers, who will thrive in a dynamic environment, get involved, and add value." Other firms to increase graduate jobs ahead of next year include Morgan Ashurst, a nationwide construction firm, which has doubled its intake of former students in the past 12 months, the Eastern Daily Press reported.
