Students who are due to leave university next summer have been warned that they should be preparing their applications for graduate jobs. An industry expert spoke to the Independent about how getting CVs and potential employers lined up in the next few months will give candidates a much better chance at landing a graduate job. Claire Cawthorn of graduate training initiative Teach First said that this point in the academic career of university students is a "vital" one for standing out from the crowd and demonstrating a keenness to work. "There are fewer jobs available, and they receive huge numbers of applications. Anything you can do at any point in your academic career to make yourself stand out is going to be crucial," she advised. Research by the Times recently suggested that investment banks in London are planning a 20 per cent increase in graduate recruitment numbers for 2010 and will be arriving on campuses this month.
