Youngsters 'confused' over qualifications, critics argue

Youngsters 'confused' over qualifications, critics argue Schools and universities need to work alongside employers to ensure that those hoping to enter into graduate jobs in the future have the correct qualifications.

Just this month, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has revealed that it has received a number of complaints over claims that an Advanced Diploma is a qualification accepted by all universities.

While the literature supporting the diplomas claim that they "can get you into any university", it has now been revealed that some top institutions do not recognise them as equivalent to three-and-a-half A-levels, prompting some critics of the current system to point out that "confusion in further education is rife".

Sue Fieldman, regional editor of the Good Schools Guide, argued: "We are in a state now where nobody knows what to take, for any purpose, and I wonder how people cope. Now you have no idea what gets you where."

She added that the government would be wise to consult all the big trade federations and industry sectors to see what qualifications they deem appropriate for those entering graduate jobs, or those coming into work further down the ladder.ADNFCR-834-ID-19436135-ADNFCR
