'Creative job boom' expected for north-east

The north-east of the UK could soon be experiencing an employment boom in the creative sector, which could provide opportunities for those seeking media sales jobs.

More than 9,000 new jobs could be generated in this industry in the next five years, according to research by One NorthEast.

Some 53 per cent of firms in the creative sector - which includes advertising, film and television, new media, music, performing arts and publishing - have plans for recruitment in this time period, the figures reveal.

Ian Williams, One NorthEast director of business and industry, commented: "This research shows that the [creative] sector is again punching above its weight in the region and this is likely to continue.

"The growth of the commercial creative industries point the way forward to a more knowledge-based economy in the region and the report highlights key opportunities that can be taken advantage of to maximise growth in the sector."

In August, MonsterTrak suggested that the sales and marketing field offered some of the most plentiful entry-level opportunities of any industry.
