Encouraging signs for graduates in 'tough' jobs market

Encouraging signs for graduates in 'tough' jobs market University leavers should be encouraged by news that UK companies are beginning to offer more job vacancies, one industry observer suggested yesterday (May 26th).

Earlier this week, the Confederation of British Industry revealed that just six per cent of firms across the country have a recruitment freeze in place at present.

Lisette Howlett, managing director and founder of online recruitment community HireScores.com, explained that the findings are particularly encouraging in the current economic climate.

However, she also urged graduate job hunters to be relentless in their quest to secure a permanent role as competition is likely to remain fierce in the coming months.

"As things start to ease in the economy more people will also be looking to move on and this creates a knock-on effect," she said.

"It is likely that employers will be quite selective with who they hire which will make competition for jobs remain tough."

A recent study commissioned by pre-employment screening company Powerchex suggested that the number of financial jobs in the City increased by 87 per cent on a year-on-year basis last month.ADNFCR-834-ID-19805157-ADNFCR
