'Graduates should not be pigeon-holed'

'Graduates should not be pigeon-holed' Graduate job hunters may be interested to hear what a university think-tank has said about a new report that aims to help employers decipher the differences between various candidates in the degree-level job market.

The guide, from the Association of Graduate Recruiters, aims to 'demystify' the candidates available to graduate employers but has been criticised for potentially ignoring students from newer universities.

Pam Tatlow, chief executive of Million+ said that it was wrong to pigeon-hole students based on which institution they attended and advised employers against making assumptions.

She added: "Most of these universities were teaching professionally focused courses and undertaking relevant research for many years before they were awarded university title.

"All UK universities are quality assured and the biggest difference between universities is not the quality or the skills of their graduates but the socio-economic background of their students."

The leaders of the three main political parties in the UK are tonight (April 15th) locking horns in a televised debate on home affairs, so it will be interesting to see what comments are made on graduates.ADNFCR-834-ID-19722235-ADNFCR
