Building up experience is never something that will harm a graduate job hunter in search of employment and some students from the University of Portsmouth are taking advantage of a programme to complete some work abroad. The Portsmouth News reports that a record-breaking 24 students from the university's biology department are set to spend three months in varying locations, including Austria, Spain and Ireland. Among the environments they will encounter range from dolphin stranding to biodiesel production, with all skills learnt and experiences enjoyed providing a boost to their future job prospects. Responsible for signing the students to the programme is lecturer Dr Claire Hellio, who understands the benefits that heading abroad will offer the graduates. She told the publication: "We all live in Europe and we can learn a lot from each other. "Those who take the opportunity to travel to another university for three months come back full of confidence and pride." Jenni Newberry, head of communities at employment consultants Working Links, stated in 2009 that work experience is vital for graduates looking to step onto the employment ladder.
