Graduates could be in line for a job in 2010, after a new survey revealed that 82 per cent of European companies are hoping to hire employees to new positions this year, Recruitment Today reports. The study by Towers Watson, the global professional services company, provided good news for graduate job hunters, although the statistic was delivered with the caveat that 45 per cent of employers expect hiring to be below recent levels. Laura Sejen, global rewards practice leader at Towers Watson, delivered the mixed news. She said: "Without question, the last 18 months have been challenging for employers and employees alike, and while there are signs of improvement, it's clear we're not going back to 'business as usual' anytime soon. "As always, the question is how lean can companies run - especially as demand for products and services rises? Those slower to reinvest in their workforce could find themselves at a competitive disadvantage." The UK claimant count in December 2009 fell by over 15,000 on the month, in a sign that employment prospects may be slowly improving.
