The onus is on mid-sized companies to provide graduate jobs and reduce unemployment in the UK, it has been stated. City AM reports that the Ernst & Young Item Club feel that medium-sized companies are more important than smaller businesses when it comes to providing additional employment. Thus, it is imperative that they receive support from the government to provide opportunities at a time when cuts in the public sector are predicted. According to the publication, Bob Forsyth, head of strategic growth markets at Ernst & Young, said: "Small start-ups have a vital role to play in creating new industries. "But the most dynamic enterprises with the highest impact on our economy tend to be medium-sized firms that have spent several years laying the foundations for fast growth." Meanwhile, it is suggested that one way that the government could show its support is through ensuring a stable tax policy, while encouraging innovation by maintaining incentives for further research and development. Sir John Rose, the chief executive of Rolls-Royce, highlighted recently that there is a need for vacancies to be filled at small businesses by talented individuals.
