The Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) has said that employers should not be spying on potential candidates' social networking profiles when making a decision about who to take on. Speaking to Personnel Today, chief executive Carl Gilleard was responding to a TMP Worldwide study which revealed that 73 per cent of graduate job hunters do not want employers to turn sites like Facebook and Twitter into recruitment tools. Mr Gilleard said that it is important for businesses to listen to the candidate market to see how best to go about the recruitment of graduates. He told the newspaper: "Employers should use social networking sites to communicate, to raise awareness, and to get messages across but they shouldn't use them as a selection or pre-selection tool, especially out of the blue with no prior contact with the graduate." However, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants member Imtiaz Ahmed believes having a blog, a Facebook account and a Twitter account can help graduate job hunters build their online reputation, the Cambridge News reported.
