Graduate job hunters looking to break into the world of showbiz may be interested to hear that prime minister Gordon Brown has launched a £600,000 scheme to help arts graduates find work. The Creative Bursaries Scheme has been designed to help at least 40 arts graduates from less well-off backgrounds to gain places on what would otherwise be unpaid internships to get a foot in the door for acting, music, art and dance roles. Said bursaries will be run in partnership with arts charity the Jerwood Foundation and will last up to a year from their start in September 2010. Commenting on the initiative, Mr Brown said: "We are rightly proud of the huge amount of talent and creativity that exists in the arts in the UK. "This funding will help give some of our gifted young artists the extra support and valuable experience they need to get a foot in the door of our creative industries and help them on their way to realising their full potential." The news comes after it was recommended to graduates embarking on postgraduate courses that they work hard away from the course to make use of the qualification.
