Awareness of graduate internships 'must be raised'

Awareness of graduate internships 'must be raised' More young people such as those looking for graduate jobs at the moment need to be informed about internships before money is pumped into creating more of the schemes, one expert claims.

Becky Heath, co-director of Internocracy, criticised a recent move by the Liberal Democrats to propose 800,000 paid internships which could be taken up by graduates.

Ms Heath wants to see more information being put forward to young people about how to access internships and what they involve before politicians "throw money" at creating more of the initiatives.

She added: "It needs to be more of a two-pronged attack in terms of raising awareness [for] students from all backgrounds and providing that financial support so that they can actually undertake one."

Bolsover District Council recently announced that university leavers in the East Midlands could be helped to find graduate jobs through a new scheme which links them to employers, Chad.co.uk reported.
