Graduates of the UK's first degree which includes chartered accountant work experience have begun to reap the benefits of the experience. The majority of graduates who have completed the course have obtained employment with PricewaterhouseCoopers at various locations across the country, the Journal reports. Academic studies and paid professional work experience are both part of the course. The most recent cohort of students could be qualified chartered accountants within 12 months. Dr Raymond Madden, the ICAEW's executive director of learning and professional development, described the scheme as "an innovative degree programme that links academic theory with real business". "Today's graduates now have an excellent foundation to build a career in professional services and graduates can take an accelerated route to qualify as a chartered accountant," he remarked. Last month, Robert Leggett, managing director of Omni RMS, suggested that the accountancy profession "needs an image overhaul".
