The UK economy is likely to lag behind other countries' if graduate job numbers are not kept up, an expert has said. Johnny Rich, editor of Push.co.uk, claims that providing jobs for graduates is necessary for a healthy economy because of the skills and fresh talent that university leavers can offer businesses. Mr Rich explained that education is important for creating a workforce which can help keep the UK economy in a world-leading position and that this generation should not be thrown on the scrapheap. He added: "If we are to remain a leading world economy we will need a higher educated workforce. In order to have that we will not only need a greater proportion of people going into higher education from schools." The Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services recently reminded this year's university leavers that there are still graduate jobs out there so they should not be put down by the lack of available opportunities.
