Employability skills are vital for graduates as high unemployment increases competition for graduate jobs
Employability is becoming vital for university graduates, and students are urged to turn to vocational degrees in a bid to boost their career development opportunities.
Research from the confederation of British Industry (CBI) has found that the UK creative industry has huge growth potential, which could be key to driving economic recovery yet could be held back because of a lack of relevant skills in graduates.
Many Uk managers believe there is a shortage in skills because graduates aren’t studying for degrees in science, technology, engineering or maths. This may change once tuition fees rise as this will cause many graduates to study for traditional qualifications in main subject areas rather than ‘Mickey mouse’ degrees.
Currently however only 7% of graduates have studied the required courses, yet many businesses are looking for the skills involved within these areas of study.
