Employment up in the east

Graduates hoping to get work in the east of England will be glad to hear that employment in the region is on the up.

According to a survey by accountant firm PKF, employment in this area has seen the largest rate of growth compared with other UK regions.

Figures from PKF's small and medium-sized enterprise index showed that the east saw the largest rate of expansion in employment since the first survey almost ten years ago.

Commenting on the findings, Michael Muskett, regional partner in charge of PKF in East Anglia, said: "Here in the east we are benefiting from significant inward investment and this has resulted in the largest rate of growth in employment across the UK.

"You only have to look at the redevelopment work being undertaken in places like Yarmouth or the expansion of Felixstowe port and Stansted Airport, along with new corridors of housing, to see the high levels of activity taking place."

Meanwhile, a separate survey has revealed that more and more employers are using health and wellbeing benefits to attract candidates rather than higher salaries.

Recruitment firm Hudson's 2007 HR Salary survey showed that employers are starting to realise that money alone is not enough to entice the best candidates to jobs.
