'Exciting' opportunities await graduates at small firms

Graduates who take positions at smaller enterprises will find a host of "exciting" opportunities, it has been claimed.

Dan Hawes of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau said that small companies could offer "more room to flourish" for those who have just left university.

"If you join a small firm that's growing … you're certainly going to take part in something exciting - a company that's potentially going places," he remarked.

"And if you carve out your own niche, then your career could follow a very rapid trajectory and you could end up being a director within a matter of years."

Another benefit for of joining a small company is that there's a better chance avoiding relocation if graduates live outside of London, he added.

Recent research by the Small Business Research Trust indicated that many employers expect to increase their hiring during the third quarter of 2007.
