University leavers can still secure their ideal job if they are prepared to put in the hard work, one recent graduate suggested yesterday (May 13th). Ella-Grace Kirton, who picked up a degree at York University, managed to get an administrative job at a London hospital to further her dream of becoming a doctor. However, writing for the Yorker, she explained that it was only through grafting - applying for 20 jobs every day for three months - that she achieved her goal. Furthermore, Ms Kirton urged graduates not to become discouraged by the impact of the recession on the jobs market, despite understanding why it is viewed as a major barrier. "Graduating into a recession made us all feel as if we couldn't afford to be idealistic, that we should just take whatever we could get. In a sense, we were right to," she wrote. "[But] if graduation, and the sense of possibility that it inevitably brings, is not time to start pursuing what we really want to do with our lives, then when is?" Earlier this week, Corporate Innovations told Meetpie.com that it is currently sending representatives to UK universities in order to snap up the most talented graduates.
