Government funds skills training for unemployed including graduate traiining

Government funds skills training for unemployed The Department of Innovations, Universities and Skills (DIUS) has announced that 14 colleges in London will receive a share of an £83 million grant to help unemployed people, including graduates, to improve their skills through training.

John Denham, the skills secretary at DIUS, made the announcement last week, saying that the funding was aimed at making sure that jobs are provided to those who need them.

Courses will be tailored to local job availabilities and those who find work while receiving the training will be able to continue throughout their employment in order to keep their skills up to date.

Mr Denham said: "We will not stand by and leave people abandoned on the dole with no support. I would encourage people across London to take advantage of these training opportunities."

University College London, which recently received £500,000 from the Higher Education Funding Council for England, is to help its unemployed graduates to find internships and industry training with the money, according to the Independent.
