FDM group comments on the latest employment figures for graduates

graduate benefit choices 150FDM group looks at the latest figures that were published by the Office for National Statistics

The figures outlined that up to 20% of graduates are currently earning less than the median wage of students educated to A-level standard. The latest figures that were published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) gave worrying data to universities and young graduates. During this current period where many students are weighing up the benefits of university these figures will not help matters for universities trying to lure top students.

The number of graduates in highly skilled jobs has also taken a dip with only 56.6% of graduates working in a skilled role compared to 68% in 1993. The FDM group has outlined that it has been providing well paid careers into highly skilled graduate jobs and is angered by this news.

FDM CEO Rod Flavell said, “These latest employment figures are simply shocking considering that graduates have invested their time, hard work and money into gaining degrees in order to improve their career prospects. As the UK’s largest IT graduate employer, we want to assure IT graduates that if they are searching for highly skilled jobs within the IT sector then FDM can still offer them a root into these.”

IT recruitment is receiving a large amount of interest from graduates, and with the number of gradate IT jobs increasing by 18% year-on-year for the second quarter of 2011 the prospects for graduates are promising. The salaries for IT professionals also rose by 7.5% in the past year according to recruitment agency Greythorn.
