Graduates offered legal training

Graduates offered legal training An increasing number of companies are implementing graduate training schemes to secure the best talent, it has emerged.

Miles Jobling, director of transformation and head of legal for litigation and employment at BT, notes that it has been common practice for legal firms to recruit within the company in the past.

However, BT has made significant changes to its trainee solicitor recruitment programme, making it available to external candidates, which may be of note to graduates considering the sector.

The new scheme will see law graduates take part in a three-year course while working in its in-house legal department, reports the Lawyer.

Gordon Moir, head of legal at BT Retail, said: "We took the view that we need to bring in new talent to the business. And one of the ways we’re going to do this is go out to the graduate market."

According to Lawyer 2B's latest annual in-house training contract survey, the banking sector currently leads the way when it comes to offering training contract positions.
