Applications rise for graduate media jobs

Applications rise for graduate media jobs More university leavers have gone into graduate media jobs in the past year, according to a major new survey of graduate recruitment.

The High Fliers UK Graduate Careers Survey 2009, which looked at the details of graduates of 30 universities, found that graduate media jobs have become more popular since 2008.

In contrast, university leavers have shunned the investment banking sector since the recession began, with the industry seeing a drop in applications of one-third despite being one of the most popular graduate job destinations last year.

Other sectors which have seen a rise in graduate job applications include marketing and also teaching, which has risen from third most popular career choice in 2008 to first this year.

University admissions service Ucas recently revealed that expectation of a graduate job in journalism is still high, judging by figures for the number of degree applications it has seen.
