New figures for graduate employment released by the Higher Education Statistic Agency
The Higher Education Statistic Agency (HESA) has released new figures for the 2009/10, detailing what universities have the best graduate employment figures and which courses are most likely to see graduates employed. The figures have highlighted that graduate recruitment has seen an improvement with 90.4% of first time graduates finding employment up from 89.9% from the previous year, however competition for graduate positions remains intense with 83 applicants thought to be chasing each available job.
Students from medicine and dentistry were found to be the most employable, followed by subjects aligned with medicines, business and admin students also were found to fair well in the employment stakes, although computer science, creative arts and design students and communications students were found to have fared slightly worse. Several universities fared well with good employment results at redbrick’s including Surrey, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Cardiff universities, as well as the metropolitans like Swansea, Leeds and Manchester with the majority of universities having employment rates in the 90%-80% range.
This news is positive for the graduate market and graduates themselves although graduates are going to have to work harder to stand out amongst their peers due to the exceedingly high volume of applications for each graduate position.
