Graduate jobs available in defence

Graduate jobs available in defence There are an increasing number of jobs available in the defence industry, despite the current economic climate, it has been reported.

High Fliers Research managing director Martin Birchall predicts graduate vacancies in the sector will increase by ten per cent over the next twelve months - while some other job markets are experiencing relatively little growth.

According to Mr Birchall, the current cutbacks in City jobs may lead an increasing number of graduates to seek employment opportunities in defence roles.

"For those interested in working in intelligence, there will be up to 500 vacancies at GCHQ, the Government’s communications headquarters, and at MI5, he said.

"Both recruit a wide range of technical and non-technical graduates, including mathematicians, linguists, surveillance officers and electronics technicians."

He added that graduates securing employment with high-profile employers in the industry can expect to earn between £22,000 and £30,000.

GCHQ is a Civil Service department which reports to the foreign secretary.
