Britain's food sector has emerged as one of the strongest in terms of the number of graduate jobs available. According to a report in the Daily Mirror, more than 10,000 positions are available in the sector at any one time, with possible career paths including quality assessors, retail management positions and research and development vacancies. Jack Matthews of Improve, the Food and Drink Sector Skills Council, told the newspaper that the sector is looking to replace its ageing workforce and that a number of employers are "crying out for ambitious recruits". "The food and drink industry has shown it is resilient to the recession as people will always need to eat, so there are plenty of career paths offering great opportunities for progression," he said. Graduate employers in the food sector tend to specialise in a single aspect of the industry, which is recognised for having excellent progression prospects. According to the Food and Drink Federation, exports of food and non-alcoholic drinks have increased by 10.2 per cent during the first six months of this year, with the sector demonstrating its resilience to the recession.
