Graduate scheme gets £192k injection

Graduate scheme gets £192k injection Graduate job hunters in the north may be interested to learn that the Higher Education Funding Council of England has contributed £192,000 for the Graduate Innovation Projects initiative developed by the University of Cumbria.

As part of the scheme, employers will be given £2,000 to pay for a graduate to gain experience in the workplace and to date 20 new jobs have been created as part of it, the North West Evening Mail reports.

Kevin Boles, head of enterprise at the university, told the paper: "The purpose of the graduate employability scheme is to create and retain valuable graduate jobs, which are so vital to the long-term good of the economy.

"The £2,000 wage subsidy helps manage the cash flow issue faced by many employers. We have placed 25 graduates in new jobs and demand for the new places is increasing rapidly."

Earlier this week graduate job hunters looking for degree-level employment were handed a boost by the news that professional services firm KPMG increased its number of graduate vacancies by 25 per cent.ADNFCR-834-ID-19624121-ADNFCR
