Graduate recruitment companies find there are too many graduates applying to jobs without the necessary skills
Graduate employers are being inundated with candidates that have no suitable workplace skills for their graduate vacancies, and the talented ones are staying put. The survey conducted by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) on the Resourcing and Talent Planning was produced in partnership with Hays.
It was found that 73% of organisations have seen an increase in the number of unsuitable candidates for job vacancies, which is said to be fuelled by the amount of graduate job vacancies to graduates that are unemployed. There has been a large increase in companies competing for the greatest talent in over 2 years.
Up to 75% of the organisations who took part in the survey experienced difficulties when recruiting. As was seen in the previous years the lack of necessary specialist skills has meant many job vacancies do not get filled.
Thos with the required skills and who are in work are reluctant to leave because of the volatile market. The staff turnover rate during the recession is 5% lower than pre-recession levels. Many companies have outlined plans to reduce costs and reduction budgets through in-house development and training.
